Frames is an exploration of motion capture and photo montage by delving into a passé analog animation system which also explores encryption and decryption as a sub-system to create both Abstract and Figurative Interactive artworks.
With over 200,000 people being deaf in Ghana, fostering associations with the hearing appears to be neglected in part, due to communication barriers.
The focus of this exhibition is to spark a conversation on the relationship between the deaf and the hearing communities, hence the need for collaboration between Akutso Design Lab and Ghana Deaf Space.
In fig 1, the interaction between the film and image sheets creates an analogue animation in real-time exposing the decoded message in sign language.
In fig 2, the message to be signed, chosen by a representative of Ghana Deaf Space was 'Love Is Powerful '.
In this exhibition, a sub-system of encryption and decryption is explored. The interlaced image is the encrypted message, the transparent stripped film is the decryption key (for interaction), the process of moving the film over the interlaced image or the movement of the observer across the installation becomes the interaction, and a decrypted message is what is seen in the form of an analogue animation when the interaction is performed on the interlaced image.

The encrypted message is by default presented as an abstract piece and then temporarily translated to a figurative piece via the observer's interaction.
